Character Name: Tatsumi Saiga
Nicknames/Psuedonames: None
Character Age or Age Appearance: Actual Age--32/33 The Pathways reverted his body back to the way it was and healed him...so the Age He Looks--27/28
Race/Species: Human/Euphoric
Physical Description: Tall with dark brown/black spikey hair. Wears suits or nice looking casual clothes. Smokes quite a bit. When he uses his ability his eyes turn red and look bloodshot.
Distinguishing Features: He always carries at LEAST one camera with him (though he often has three or four), each with varying strengths and lenses.
Personal History: The male protagonist, a veteran war journalist who somehow took a liking to it. His love for photography develops into sexual fetishism: he gets an erection whenever he takes exciting photographs. However, after returning to Japan, his passion seems to have died.
While investigating a secret club where rich and influential people meet to fulfill their most perverted desires, he receives a kiss from Kagura and develops the ability to explode whoever and whatever he photographs—Death by Photo. The effect of this ability depends on what type of camera and lens he is using (e.g., a telescopic lens has a more powerful effect than a regular lens). He can also psychically load film into his camera. He was infected by the virus on the same island that Suitengu was.
Over the course of the series Saiga gets more and more protective of Kagura. First acting as a sort of teacher; teaching her things about the world. When anyone questions whether he is in love with her he casually brushes it off saying "it's not like that", or just ignoring the question altogether. In the final episode when Kagura says the world would be better if she and Suitengu were dead Saiga admits to her that he loves her and wants her to live more than anything. Five years after Suitengu's coup d' etat, a blind Saiga is taking pictures of the sunset, when a twenty year old Kagura walks through the laundry drying in the sun. He then says "Welcome back", and the two embrace and the screen moves up toward the sunset.
Personality: Saiga can be cynical and sometimes pessimistic but he is also a very kind person. He has a good sense of humor and even though he experienced war and suffering he can still see the freedom that he has. He has a soft spot for children, but he doesn't usually interact with them on a regular basis. Having been blind for five years, he now has an understanding and soft spot for those people who suffer from blindness.
Magical Abilities/Special Skills: While investigating a secret club where rich and influential people meet to fulfill their most perverted desires, he receives a kiss from Kagura and develops the ability to explode whoever and whatever he photographs—Death by Photo. The effect of this ability depends on what type of camera and lens he is using (e.g., a telescopic lens has a more powerful effect than a regular lens). He can also psychically load film into his camera.
Weaknesses: Saiga used to suffer from the deterioration caused by his Euphoric abilities. Now however, The Pathways have healed him and along with restoring his full perfect sight and age they have made it so that he can use his powers as much as he wants without fear of harming himself or losing his sight again. However, this is the only special ability he has, he is still a mortal man and can die from such things as a gunshot wound or infection and disease.
Anime/Manga/Game Character is from: Speed Grapher
Timeline: After the end of the series. At the end of the series Saiga goes blind, however, he is transported to The Pathways before he meets up with Kagura on the roof. When he arrives in The Pathways he finds himself granted back his sight (and his ability will no longer make him lose it) and his power of “Death by Photo” of being a Euphoric. He also appears to be 27/28 again instead of 32/33. Saiga has taken a liking to Kisa Sohma(she reminds him sort of, of Kagura but he doesn’t love Kisa in the romantic sense) and feels he should try and help her at any possible moment. Saiga teaches art, specifically photography, at the local high school part-time.
